Pursuant to its incorporation plan, the Town is to provide four of the following eight
municipal services for the town: 1. police protection; 2. fire protection; 3. solid waste
collection or disposal;  4. water distribution;  5. street construction or right-of-way
acquistion; 7. street lighting; 8. zoning.  The charter does not specify which services
have to be provided.  Furthermore, any municipality incorporated on or after January
1, 2000 must include in its annual budget appropriations for at least four of the same
statutory list of eight services.  If the town does not allocate these funds every year the
town may not be eligible to receive certain state collected tax revenues.  At the present,
fire protection is provided by Midway Fire and Rescue along with Gumtree Fire and
Rescue Department.  Water distribution is provided by Davidson Water.  Both of these
services are paid for through their own respective taxing districts, thus requiring no
appropriations by the Town.  The Town Council will provide the services that are the
most economically feasible.

There will be a Sewer Committe Meeting on December 17th at Town Hall.  The meeting
will begin at 5:00 p.m.

The Town Council voted to approve an amendment to the contract with North
Davidson Garbage Collection at the June 30th planning meeting.  Any resident
that has one garbage container will not be charged for this service.  The cost
for any resident that has two containers will be $15.00 per month.  An additional
$7.00 will be charged to the residents that want pickup other than at the curbside.
If you have any questions about the charges you may contact Town Hall at 764-5455
or North Davidson Garbage Collection at 731-4025.  The charges are per month.
Please remember they will not pick up large items such as appliances, bicycles,
etc.  All garbage must be in the container.  They will not pick up any garbage if it
is not in the container owned by North Davidson Garbage.
